Documentary Film Series: The Art and Soul of a Man: Ebony Thompson

October 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Westbury Arts’ Documentary Film Series is proud to present this important film, THE ART AND SOUL OF A MAN: EBONY THOMPSON, directed and produced by Danangelowe “ARTBOII” Spencer.

The Film: The ART AND SOUL OF A MAN: EBONY THOMPSON focuses on the life of Ebony Thompson, a visual artist originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone. In the film, he explores his passion in communicating his African heritage, along with his experiences in America, which are both represented in his art. His intention is to use this duality to stimulate thought and initiate a dialogue through his pieces. His art expresses a true cultural statement, with the African aspect carefully imprinted through each piece, while also exploring social justice issues in the African American experience. Throughout the film, we are treated to his incredibly beautiful and emotionally charged canvases as a backdrop. We are immersed in the vibrant colors, intricate details, and thought-provoking themes that define Ebony’s unique style. This film is a rare opportunity to witness the artistic journey of a truly talented individual.

As you watch this film, allow yourself to be transported into Ebony Thompson’s world. Engage with the art, feel the emotions it evokes, and be inspired by the artist’s perspective. This event is a celebration of both art and soul, offering an intimate glimpse into the creative process of a remarkable man.

The Filmmaker: Danangelowe A.J. Spencer is a multifaceted Jamaican born artist whose creative work includes film, photography, graphic design, and mixed media painting, etc. Passionate about visual storytelling and conceptual art, Danangelowe continues to expand his creative horizon in the direction of becoming a multimedia artist and creative director. In his quest to continuously understand life and its fundamental truths, Danangelowe’s work often poses questions to its audience. This element can also be found in his philosophy that art should not provide the viewer with an answer to their curiosity but rather enable them to find their own truths through questioning and reasoning with oneself. Danangelowe can be found collaborating with other artists to highlight their work and their life through short abstract and documentary style films.

Danangelowe created what has now become his brand D.A.J.S. Visuals and ARTBOii along with his overarching concept of Art | Reality | Truth (A.R.T).

We are honored to have both Ebony and Danangelowe with us at the screening to talk about the film. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, broaden your perspective, and reflect on the importance of art as a social statement.
