SUMMARY:Anna in the Tropics
DESCRIPTION:Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize winner comes to Westbury in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Free tickets with a refundable reservation. \nAbout this event\n‘I have dreams and they are full of white snow\, \nand Anna Karenina is dancing waltzes with Vronsky. \nThen I see them in a little room\, \nand all the snow melts from the heat of their bodies.’ \nTampa\, Florida\, 1929. In a Cuban–American cigar factory\, where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are employed to educate and entertain the workers\, the arrival of a new lector is cause for celebration. But when he begins to read aloud from Anna Karenina\, he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners\, for whom Tolstoy\, the tropics\, and the American dream prove a volatile combination.\nEastLine Theatre in association with Westbury Arts will present Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Anna in the Tropics this September\, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.\nThis production is part of EastLine’s Theatre for All initiative.\nTicket reservations are $20 per seat. These reservations are refundable\, in cash\, following each performance.\nAttendees must show proof of vaccination and will be required to remain masked throughout the performance.\nPerformances of Anna in the Tropics will begin promptly at the listed time. All attendees must arrive by fifteen minutes prior to the performance or their tickets may be released to a waiting list. If you are unable to attend please call us at 516-749-5047. Performances have very limited seating and we would like to accommodate as many audience members as would like to attend. All seating is general admission.\nRefunds of $20 cash per seat only\, will be made in-person\, following each performance. Ticketing fees are non-refundable. After each performance\, refundable reservation fees may be turned into a tax-deductible donation upon the patron’s request. If there are any questions regarding this policy please contact info@eastlinetheatre.org\nPlease be aware this performance includes simulated gunshots\, implied sexual assault\, and depictions of violence. For more specific content warnings\, feel free to contact us here. The performance is recommended for ages thirteen and up.\nThis event is made possible through the support of Westbury Arts and EastLine’s Heritage fund supporters; Larry Meneses\, chair.\nThe performance space at Westbury Arts is located in the basement and can be reached via elevator. Step-free access to the building is available from the back parking lot. Feel free to contact us with any access questions here.\nAnna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz is directed by Tom Ciorciari\, presented by EastLine Theatre in partnership with Westbury Arts\, stage management by Matt Rosenberg\, and with costumes by Lynn Ciorciari.\nThe cast of Anna in the Tropics features Geo Carpio\, Lauren Giglio\, Giovanni Marine\, Julia Navarro\, Kevin Rios\, and Elizabeth Tobio.\nEastLine’s Westbury season will continue in December with the world premiere of These Gilded Souls — A Jazz Age Ghost Story\, Aly Kantor’s new adaptation of The Great Gatsby.\nEastLine Theatre is a nonprofit theatre company that BroadwayWorld calls ‘Long Island’s best kept secret’. EastLine aims to create theatre in unlikely spaces while re-examining the canon\, exploring modern plays\, and bringing original works to the attention of the community.\nIn summer 2021\, EastLine toured Long Island parks with an acclaimed production of Romeo & Juliet. In recent years\, EastLine has produced Prospero (Live)\, an original musical based on The Tempest; the Long Island premiere of Paula Vogel’s Indecent; a newly-commissioned adaptation of Antigone; a sold-out run of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus in a tiny blackbox space; and a production of Treasure Island that BroadwayWorld said was ‘bursting at the seams with imagination’.\nEastLine Theatre is a proud member of the Huntington Arts Council and the Alliance of Resident Theatres / New York.\n\nPerformances\n\nFridays: September 9\, 23\, & 30 — 7:30 pm curtain\nSaturdays: September 10 & 24; October 1 — 7:30 pm curtain\nSundays: September 11 & 18; October 2 — 3:00 pm curtain
