Face-Up! A portrait Drawing Workshop for Beginners and Beyond

November 24, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

2hrs. (digital) ages 10 and up.

Course Information

The most avoided subject in life drawing classes is the human face. This workshop aims to dispel the fears associated with drawing the human face by teaching expert step-by-step methods. By the end of this class students will have a better understanding of proportion and classical execution of portraiture.

Teaching Philosophy

I have a fluid teaching philosophy. I believe that every student has their own unique way of learning, and therefore, their own set of needs and strengths that they bring to me. I try to adjust what I am teaching to meet every student’s needs so the class as a whole will be more successful.

Course Content

Class will begin with a short introduction to materials followed by an introduction to facial structure, proportion, and guidelines. Class will be asked to follow along with 1 face drawing (no model). Class will then be asked to warm up with quick gesture drawings of the face (1min. progressing to 3 min. With models). The next 3 poses will be 10 minutes each, examining features from different races with heavy instruction on proportion and structure. The following sketches will be 20 min each exploring the different angles of the face in different poses (head-on, ¾, etc.).
