SUMMARY:Westbury Arts Winter Concert Series presents: StrongMountain!
DESCRIPTION:Rhythm guitar\, vocals – Tony Monteforte\nLead guitar\, euphonium\, percussion – Thomas Monteforte\nBass guitar\, Percussion – Albert Monteforte\nDrums\, percussion – Cole Vincenti\n  \nTwo Carle Place High School musicians (brothers) have blended the electric bass\, electric guitar and baritone instruments to form original Rock n’ Roll music with the help of their father on rhythm guitar and Carle Place cousin on drums. The music stems from sixties and seventies rock influences with the blues foundations. Adhering to the simplicity of the driving hard rock riff while also appreciating guitar melody and musical improve\, these bandmates want to preserve the old fashion roots of Rock n’ Roll. StrongMountain is an outlet for these talented musicians to showcase their talents as performers and songwriters.\n  \nRhythm guitarist Tony Monteforte is an amateur songwriter and electric guitarist who is self taught. He is the father of Thomas and Albert. Albert Monteforte (bass guitar) has been playing the french horn since 2017 and is currently a sophomore in Carle Place High School. This 16 year old musician plays electric bass for his high school Jazz band as well as the french horn in the HS Band. Albert also co-writes much of the music. Thomas (lead guitar\, euphonium\, percussion) at just 14 years old is a three time NYSSMA participant who has performed twice on euphonium as a member of the all-county (Nassau) band which performs a concert each year at the Tilles Center. Thomas also plays euphonium for his High School jazz and regular band. Cole Vincenti (drums) is a recent graduate of Carle Place High school. His passion for drums and percussion dates far back into his youth. He has played with many notable professional musicians in his spare time as a youngster as well.\nThe Monteforte family has long roots in the Westbury and Carle Place communities. Tony’s mom\, Grace (85) was born and raised in Carle place starting in the late 1930’s when there were more milk cows and farms than residential homes. She can tell you why they called Carle Place the “Frog Hollow”. Albert Thomas Monteforte was the grandfather of Thomas and Albert who was a trumpet player for the Westbury High school back in the fifties.\n  \nFinally\, StrongMountain would like to add that we love rock n’ Roll and our goal is to play it as simple and exciting as possible. Rock music is in need of a refresh. We will deliver it to make it fresh again.\n  \nTickets are free for general admission or $5.00 (plus Eventbrite fee) for reserved seating. Seating is limited\, so advance registration or purchase is required.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: "Engineers of Equality" - Tricia Messeroux Photo Exhibit & Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:A book talk and exhibition of images from director and photographer Tricia Messeroux’s book\, Toddlewood’s Engineers of Equality Project\n\n  \nTHE EXHIBITION: Westbury Arts is proud to present an exhibition of selected images from the coffee table book\, Toddlewood’s Engineers of Equality Project\, by director and photographer Tricia Messeroux.\n\n  \nThis project\, born in response to the death of George Floyd\, uses children as models to recreate images of civil rights leaders\, past and present\, and to teach about Black History. The children are juxtaposed next to the trailblazing activist they are dressed up to represent. This book is a powerful learning tool for both children and adults all over the nation. The young models not only capture the image\, but also the spirit\, of the people they represent. Tricia Messeroux has said\, “I am encouraged to use my God-given creativity as an opportunity to teach\, uplift and inspire our future change-makers and our communities at large.”\n\n  \nTHE RECEPTION: Westbury Arts is honored to have Tricia Messeroux speak at the opening reception and help us learn more about the creation of her book\, the young models\, and the heroes past and present. Copies of her books will be available for sale and can be signed by the author. The evening will also feature a brief presentation by Laura Harding\, Esq.\, the President of ERASE Racism\, the regional civil rights organization based on Long Island. The presentation will reflect on the ways in which the exhibition connects to and enriches Black History Month and the work of her organization. Tickets to the reception are free and can be reserved through Eventbrite.\n\n  \nOPEN GALLERY DAYS: Following the opening reception on February 4th\, our gallery will be open throughout February on:\nThursdays from 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm\,\nFridays from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm\, and\nSaturdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm\n\n  \nLearn more about Tricia Messeroux’s book at https://toddlewood.com/…/toddlewood-coffee-table-book…/

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Village of Westbury 90th Anniversary Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Westbury Arts\, in collaboration with the Westbury Historical Society\, is marking the Village’s 90th anniversary this year with an exhibition of photos and other artifacts of historical interest. \nPerhaps no other community in Nassau County has seen in 90 years as much rapid change as Westbury. From an agrarian Quaker community of dairy farms and potato fields adjacent to the Hempstead Plains\, Westbury evolved into a suburban community bordering the Gold Coast. Then\, this lifestyle was disrupted by World War II and the construction of the Northern State Parkway. This may have spelled doom\, but Westbury has weathered many rebirths\, and today its demographic change and downtown revitalization continue to rejuvenate our community. \nJoin us at Westbury Arts\, 255 Schenck Ave.\, for the official opening reception of the Village of Westbury’s 90th Anniversary Exhibition on Saturday\, November 5\, 2022\, from 7-9 pm. Register for free on Eventbrite.

Ms. Shih will be selling and signing DVDs of the film. \n\n\n\n\n“Dr. Fernandez’s story is emblematic of so many immigrant families seeking an opportunity to live safely\, and striving to reach their full potential. The film conveys the love and determination that propelled them to follow their dream. This film needs to be seen far and wide. It has the power to touch hearts and change minds to be more open to different people.” \n\n\n  \nDr. Harold Fernandez\, Heart Surgeon and Author \nHarold Fernandez is a leading heart surgeon in New York. SUMMARY:The Arts of Islam: Ritual\, Beauty\, Pattern
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nThis Exhibition\, “The Art of Islam: Ritual\, Beauty\, Pattern” is a collaboration between Westbury Arts and the Islamic Center of Long Island. \nCurated by a group from the Islamic Center of Long Island in Westbury\, it illustrates the stylistic\, cultural\, and historical breadth of Islamic art. The work on display\, coming from home collections of local Muslim families and the works of modern Muslim artists\, employs various art forms\, such as calligraphy\, paintings\, pottery\, and metal works. Included on display will be the hand-carved ivory replica of the Taj Mahal (seen above) which is only 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches. \nThe exhibition groups these pieces according to three unifying characteristics of Islamic art: ritual\, beauty\, and pattern. Traditional Islamic art emphasizes the teachings of the Quran (ritual)\, the exquisiteness of the world crafted by a loving Creator (beauty)\, and repetitive\, all-over surface decoration (pattern) suggesting the infinite. Says Dr. Faroque Khan of Jericho\, co-chair of the art exhibition committee\, “Just as the religion of Islam embodies a way of daily living\, this collection helps to illustrate concepts that have unified Muslims through time\, space\, and mode of artistic expression.” \nWestbury Arts is proud to partner with the Islamic Center. Our President\, Julie Lyon has said that “Our hope is that this exhibition will allow all who visit to enjoy the art while broadening their understanding of Islamic culture.” \nIn addition to our opening reception\, gallery viewing will be available on: \nFridays\, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM\, on August 12th\, 19th\, and 26th. \nSaturdays\, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on August 13th\, 20th and 27th. \nSundays\, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM\, on August 7th\, 14th\, and 21st. \nOpening Reception for the Exhibition \n\nREGISTER
