DESCRIPTION:Come join us for the grand opening of the Westbury High School and Middle School Art Exhibition – Enjoy the work of our young artists! \n\nThe Contest: For several years\, Westbury Arts has sponsored a trip to NYC for Westbury Schools’ students. This year\, students in both the Middle School and High School were asked to prepare artwork under the direction of their teachers. The artwork was judged by members of Westbury Arts and winners were selected from each school. The prize for the winning students is a day trip to New York City that includes a tour of the Cooper Hewitt Museum\, lunch\, and then a Broadway show. This year’s trip will take place on April 3rd. This program will be led by Westbury Arts Board of Directors member Chris Hobbs and chaperoned by Westbury Arts volunteers. \nThe Art Exhibition Opening: The artwork of the student winners will be on display in our gallery from March 28th to April 26th\, 2024. Parents\, family and friends\, as well as interested members of the community\, are invited to join us for the opening reception on April 6th\, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served.\n\nJoin us in celebrating the accomplishments of our wonderful young emerging artists. \n\nIn addition to the opening reception\, the exhibition can be visited on: \n\nThursdays from 12 – 4 pm\nFridays from 2 – 6 pm\, and\nSaturdays from 10 am – 2 pm\n\n\nThis free event is brought to you by Westbury Arts\, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our performance program will feature the Praise Dancers of Shiloh Baptist Church of Rockville Centre\, Danse Xpressions\, and the award-winning\, nationally recognized Rhythm of the Knights – Uniondale High School Show Choir. \nPat Jenkins Lewis\, Westbury Arts Board Director\, assisted by her daughter Angela Jenkins\, organizes this event\, in collaboration with Westbury Arts. The script is adapted from “The Secret Sharer\,” by Joseph Conrad\, and influenced by real events on the South Shore of Long Island\, New York. Themes of leaving and belonging\, suspicion and mutual aid are captured in a gripping face-to face confrontation with an unexpected outcome. The black and white “tuxedo” look donned by most penguin species is a clever camouflage called countershading. In this class\, you’ll learn to paint your own “waddle” of penguins. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a beginner\, this event is perfect for everyone. \nDuring the event\, you’ll have the opportunity to learn different painting techniques and create your own masterpiece.
