Westbury Arts Camp- Week 4 and 5

posted in: News 0

Greetings Families!

We are almost at the end of our summer adventure. For those of you that have already left camp, we hope you have a wonderful rest of summer and a fantastic year ahead.

These past two weeks have been packed with so many activities and projects, I will try to cover as many as I can.

Our drama teacher, Ms. Divinia worked on strengthening our voices with exercises focusing on projection, pronunciation, building characters and more. The campers have read poems and monologues out loud to the class and are practicing putting together voice and body to perform for our end of camp celebration, where they will be reading their own monologues!

In visual arts with Ms. Marie, we drew our own version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, collaborated with the sculpture students to finish mixed media violins, painted with watercolor and practiced some simple meditation techniques to strengthen our focus.

Photography and sculpture with Ms. Erin was super fun as we photographed each other through clear objects to create abstract images. We worked with wire to create animal “portraits” and applied mosaic designs to mixed media violins. We are also using our problem solving skills to display a hanging portal sculpture.

In music, Ms. Briana continues to inspire everyone to write, perform, record and produce amazing songs which you will get to hear and download!

Today Valerie Eagen, from 3R Sewing joined us again with small and large scale weaving projects and her traveling sewing machines. It was controlled, creative chaos that produced some pretty neat results.

On Monday, we will be meeting Ms. Priya Shah and begin our Simple Good mural project for our last week.

Please be sure to save the date, Friday 8/16 starting at 6pm. We will have an exhibit of 2D and 3D work the students have completed, camper performances, refreshments and the unveiling of our camp canvas mural. Every family who attended this year is invited, please spread the word. If you have not RSVP’d, please do so ASAP to patty@westburyarts.org.

We have been having such a wonderful time this summer and will miss every single one of these amazing artists.

See you on 8/16!
