Peter I. Cavallaro is a life-long resident of the Village of Westbury and in 2009 was elected as the eleventh Mayor in the Village’s history. Prior to that, he had served 10 years on the Village Board of Trustees and 12 years as a member of its Planning Board.

Mayor Cavallaro and the Village have been recognized by Newsday and Hofstra University’s School of Suburban Diversity for their commitment to a diverse community. Twice during Mayor Cavallaro’s term, CNNMoney.com has recognized the Village as one of the top 20 places in the nation for young professionals to live and the online publication Nerdwallet.com ranked Westbury among the top 50 places in New York State for entrepreneurs to start a business, and among the top 100 places in New York State for young families to live, in separate rankings.In 2013, Mayor Cavallaro asked residents for their assistance in creating an arts council for the Westbury community. Mayor Cavallaro envisioned Westbury Arts as the cultural centerpiece of the village and as the premier destination for arts and culture on Long Island — a key part of Westbury’s future growth and sustainability. Since then, Westbury Arts has grown and transformed in ways we could not have imagined.Professionally, Mayor Cavallaro is a practicing attorney specializing in corporate, real estate, insurance, not-for-profit and municipal law, and he has participated in and served in numerous other past and present professional, community and charitable endeavors.
