Julie Lyon

President, Founding Member

Julie and her husband Tom Cabrera (also a founding member) have been with Westbury Arts since its inception. She started as a board member and then Recording Secretary before being elected President in 2015. Born in Milwaukee, WI and raised in central Florida, Julie has a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from The University of Central Florida and currently leads a jazz quintet and records on the Unseen Rain Records label. Her background includes Purchasing, 15 years in IT as an A+ Certified technician and more recently HR, Payroll and Bookkeeping.

Maureen Baranov

Maureen Baranov is a an educator who teaches English as a Second Language in Nassau County. She has been crafting greeting cards for over 25 years and has been making jewelry for about 10 years. You can see her cards on Instagram at @MaureenMeansWell.

Chrissy Lorusso Shelley

Treasurer, Founding Member

Chrissy is a founding member and visual artist who has been with Westbury Arts since the planning stages. In addition to serving as Treasurer, she has also held the roles of President and Recording Secretary. Chrissy has been teaching drawing, painting, photography and more to students of all ages since 2006. She received her BFA from St. John’s University and her Masters of Art in Teaching from the School of Visual Arts in NY.

Joe Moran

Corresponding Secretary, Founding Member, Publicity & Marketing Chair

Joe is currently the Chief Creative Officer at Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). For more than a decade, he has worked as a nonprofit techie, digital strategist, and creative producer. Check out his online photo exhibit Westbury Rewind, which explores the evolution of Westbury over the course of a century. Joe earned his a BA in theatre arts from Marymount Manhattan College with minors in musical theatre and arts management.

Stan Turetsky

Recording Secretary, Founding Member 

Stan Turetsky is a retired career educator and was a leader in educational reform in NYC’s schools for more than 45 years. He graduated with a B.S. from New York University, an M.A. from Columbia Teachers College and a professional diploma in Education Administration from Hofstra University.

Both Westbury and the arts have long been an important part of Stan’s life. His family have lived in Westbury for more than 40 years and his wife, Nancy, was an art teacher in the community for more than 20 years. Stan was a long time member of the Westbury/Carle Place Kiwanis and currently serve on the Board of Directors of a non-profit foundation that supports pediatric cardiology. He is a founding member of the Greater Westbury Council for the Arts and serves on the Board of Directors as a Co-Recording Secretary.

Joan Boes

Board Director, Founding Member

Trustee Boes was elected to office in March 2001 and has been appointed Deputy Mayor. As Commissioner of Recreation and Senior Affairs, Trustee Boes consults on the coordination of the numerous activities and events held at the Community and Recreation Centers on Post Avenue. In that role, Trustee Boes assists with meeting the needs of one of the region’s largest and most successful senior citizen’s organizations, The Westbury Senior Citizens Center (WSCC). The Village s Community Center is the daily home to the WSCC.

Chuck Caputo

Board Director, Founding Member

Chuck has spent his career in the human service field in several senior management positions. He has consulted with agencies in the US and Canada and spent two years working with the US Navy and Marines. He now works to help redesign health care delivery in Nassau and Eastern Queens to create new health and wellness opportunities for residents. Chuck is a lifelong supporter of social justice causes and the arts and has worked with and supported many community groups over the years.

Mike Cesarano

Board Director, Founding Member

Mike has been a member of the CUNY (City University of NY) Theatre faculty since 1993, teaching various courses in Performance and Media. An experienced theatre practitioner, Mike has worked as actor, director, stage manager and sound designer. He studied acting with F. Murray Abraham while earning his MFA from Brooklyn College. In addition to the Greater Westbury Arts Council, Mike also sits on the board of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s Education Committee and the Gilbert and Sullivan Yiddish Light Opera Company. He is a noted scholar of baseball uniform history; having been cited in several books and publications. Mike continues to seek out work as an actor, not only to continue to grow as an artist but as a means to inform his teaching work.

Patty Eljaiek

Board Director, Planning & Programming Chair

Patty was born in Colombia, S.A. and arrived in NY at the age of 3 with her mami. Embracing I Love Lucy, game shows, pop music and old school Hollywood, she’s more a child of Disney than Bolivar. Although her birth culture is sewn into the fabric of her everyday life, Patty’s American dream is still wrapped tightly around Frank Capra’s small town Utopia. Born into a family of artists and women inspires her to continue creating, in every way she can.

Judy Gerrard

Board Director

Judy Gerrard is a woman of many talents and pursuits. She is an author of the book, When Did You Know…He Was Not The One? As a result she has appeared on numerous TV and radio programs including The Rachael Ray Show. She has been appointed Lifetime TV and Yahoo! Personals Relationship Expert. She is a graduate of Columbia University and is a therapist specializing in individual, family and marital issues. She is also a divorce mediator.

She is also a model and actress. She has appeared in Person of Interest, Law & Order SVU, Sesame Street, Nightline, The Today Show and many other projects.

Currently Judy and her son have a production company entitled Jefferson Street Productions. Jefferson Street Productions pitches TV and movie concepts to various media outlets. Judy has been a judge in the preliminaries for Miss America. She was also the Business Manager of Miss New York. Judy is also a licensed real estate agent and notary. In addition, she is currently serving as a Library trustee in Westbury.

Connie Locascio

Board Director


Connie grew up in Corona, N.Y. during the 50’s and moved to Westbury in 1968, not knowing anyone. She felt an immediate connection to the community, which is where she raised her two sons. Connie enrolled at Nassau Community College at night, working a full time job and life marched on. She’s always been interested in the community of Westbury, and wanted to take on a larger roll in its growth. Connie became Director of the Westbury Chamber of Commerce in Westbury and one of the founding fathers of The BID (Business Improvement District). She then ran for a seat as a school board trustee for the Westbury Union Free School District, which she held for 12 years. Connie’s love and commitment to this community will always be her passion, and she is continuing her effort as a board member of The Greater Council for the Arts, which is such an exciting and vital organization.

Thomas Sobczak, Jr.

Thomas Sobczak, Jr. is a 22-year resident of Westbury. He serves on the Long Island Art Association’s Arts Education Steering Committee and is currently Vice President of the Greater Westbury Council for the Arts.

Elizabeth Parise

Board Director, Founding Member

Elizabeth has been involved with Westbury Arts since moving to Westbury from Concord, MA in early 2013. Raised in MA, Elizabeth graduated high school as a dance major at Walnut Hill School for the Arts, studying both dance and theatre. After high school she danced for a regional ballet company in NH for several years until being accepted to the prestigious Dance Conservatory at Purchase College (SUNY). While there, she co-founded the well-known Culture Shock festival with her husband Frank, served as President of the Purchase Artists’ Collective, was a Trustee on the Board of the Children’s Center, studied arts management, and worked as a Campus Center Manager, House Captain at the Performing Arts Center, and the Orientation Coordinator.  She left the dance department, and then the college, just a few credits shy of her degree to manage a paint-your-own pottery studio in Bedford Hills, NY. She has recently re-enrolled at Purchase to finish her degree and will graduate in 2017 with a bachelor’s in Liberal Studies: Arts. Elizabeth owned her own pottery studio in Concord, MA from 1997-2003, as well as managing pottery studios in NY and MA. She has worked as a freelance ceramic artist, writer, and dance teacher. She currently lives in Westbury with her husband and her 5 youngest kids. Her oldest son is a scenic designer living in Brooklyn. She is Co-President of the Carle Place MS/HS Arts and Education Booster Club. All of her kids are involved in the arts!
