Asbury Shorts USA, a nationally recognized touring exhibition of award winning short films teams with Westbury Arts to present: “The 7th Westbury Short Film Concert.” This free outdoor screening of elite short films will take place on Friday night, September 7th at the Piazza Ernesto Strada, located on the corner of Post and Maple Avenues in Westbury, Long Island. The festivities open at 7:00pm with a live music set performed by The Out of the Box Big Band. The films hit the screen at approximately 8:15pm. The show is strongly recommended for ages 16 and way above. Attendees should bring a beach or folding chair, as available seating is limited. In case of inclement weather the show will take place on Saturday night, September 8th.

Asbury Shorts combines classic shorts with new international festival honorees providing audiences the opportunity to view world-class films on a big screen rather than You Tube or smart phones. The highly entertaining program features the best in comedy, drama and outstanding animation. Asbury Shorts celebrates the work of women directors in this year’s showcase. Highlights include: “The Suitor,” a dark comedy from director Kate Riedl of Australia. It’s the tale of a strange courtship in the wilds of the Australian Outback. “The Drive” is the poignant story of Evie, a loving daughter who struggles with role reversals as she drives her aging parents to an assisted living facility. Corinne Kassor directed this heart warming short. Director Amy Nicholson’s documentary “Pickle” examines the complicated relationships humans have with their pets in a film of unexpected warmth and mirth.

Asbury Shorts was founded in 1981 on Asbury Avenue in Westbury. Since 1999, The Asbury Short Film Concert has been presented at: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Vero Beach Museum of Art in Florida, Summer Stage in Central Park, The Director’s Guild Theater in Manhattan, The AERO Theatre in Santa Monica, CA, Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, Long Island, Royal Festival Hall in London, U.K. and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, Germany to name a few prestigious venues where audiences have enjoyed these amazing films.
