CALL FOR ARTISTS: Indoor Wall Mural Design – Vibrant Color in Oil or Acrylic Depicting People & Community in New Cassel in a Realism Style
Artists are called to submit concepts for a colorful oil or acrylic indoor mural-style portable art piece for display on a portion of the interior gallery wall of the Yes-We-Can Community Center in the hamlet of New Cassel, Greater Westbury. Surface area dimensions should roughly follow a height of the hural not exceeding seven (7) feet at maximum point from floor level and range from fifteen (15) feet minimum width to a maximum width of twenty (20) feet (not-to-exceed). The artwork may be prepared as a single, diptych, triptych, or polyptych piece as deemed appropriate by the artist.
Art in Realism-like style has traditionally sought to portray real and typical contemporary people and situations with truth and accuracy. And although the style emerged and had prevalence in the mid-19th century, its essence may still be captured in new pieces created today that depict “everyday living” and situations and interactions that arise in ordinary life. This mural should embody themes of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as well as the community cohesion and cultural vibrancy of the Westbury area in an eye-catching and uplifting visual experience that will serve as a lasting symbol of pride and unity within the community. Selection will be based upon submission of an initial design concept, subject to revisions and refinements post-award.
SUBMISSION FEE: There is no fee necessary to submit a design concept to be considered.
AWARD COMMISSION: $18,000 (NOT TO EXCEED)
The artist awarded the contract to create the mural based upon a winning design concept will refine their concept and incorporate stakeholder input from community leadership toward a final design composition. This “design refinement phase” should not exceed $7,500. Then, the creation of the final art piece, its fabrication (including paint, canvas materials, and display mounting structure), labor, and insurance shall assume a maximum mural size of 140 ft² [7’x20’ max] @ $75/ ft², costed at $10,500 for implementation. [Total: $18,000 nte].
