Call for Artists: The Art of Music
Westbury Arts invites musicians who are also visual artists to participate in “The Art of Music” an art exhibition and series of performances during the Month of June 2023. The Art of Music seeks to explore the connection between the creative processes behind music and visual art. We will take a deeper look into the synergy between visual arts and performing arts and how the two art forms speak to each other and influence each other within the artistic practice of individual artists.
The Art of Music will begin on Friday, June 2, 2023, with an opening reception, art exhibition, and panel discussion featuring works of selected musicians. The panel discussion will allow each artist an opportunity to talk about both their visual and musical art, how one informs or influences the other and the crossover between the two creative processes. We will explore the process by which the artists create mood, color and tone within their musical and artistic palettes, the motivation for exploring multiple artistic avenues, and how each influences and inspires creativity.
Beginning on June 3 and continuing each week during the month of June, we will present weekly concerts featuring one or more of the selected musician artists. Each week would give the participating artists the opportunity to present their music surrounded by their visual art. These performances will be held in Westbury Arts’ performance space which is an intimate venue that will allow the musician artists to connect directly with the audience. Musician artists will be paid for their performance based on the size of the group performing.
SUBMISSION FEE: The fee for submission is $30 for current Westbury Arts members or $35 for non-members.

We will do our best to allow each exhibiting artist a performance but, in the event that we receive a high volume of submissions, we can’t guarantee that each artist will also perform. It is not necessary for every member of an artist’s musical ensemble to also be a visual artist. But each performance will include at least one exhibiting artist.
