Listen-in on an intergenerational conversation with Latinx community members who are generating impact through their respective careers, in the arts, media, community activism and other important areas in society. Moderated by Westbury Arts’ Vice President, Adriana Devers.
On the panel are:
—Elvin Fuentes from Moloney Funeral Home. Fuentes played a major role in bringing healing to a Long Island community through his participation in Candlelights for a Cure, an online memorial for those who have experienced a loss to COVID-19.
—Alexandra Velez is a motivational speaker from Flutterflies, an organization that promotes women empowerment by motivating and inspiring all women to engage in activities that will empower them to be mentally stronger and to influence positive changes inside and out.
—Karla Canales is the author of the article “Life, listen to me” published by Long Island Wins in May 2020, raising awareness about the struggles many teens and young adults faced during the COVID-19 Pandemic and prior.
—Diana Torres serves as a Legislative Assistant in Suffolk County. She is the co-author of “Today’s Inspired Latinas,” Volume IV, 2019, and formerly was an on-air personality for La Fiesta 98.5 FM.
—Dr. Wanda Toledo, from Westbury School District, will share her views on education, the importance of the arts in schools, and how during these challenging times Drexel Avenue school has stayed at the top in community building and student performance.
— And of course, to share how the arts bring us all together, we will be joined by artist, Soykimz, Nassau Community College graduate, currently attending NYU, former Cohen’s Children’s Hospital volunteer.
