CALL for LGBTQ+ POETS and MUSIC ARTISTS
Pride Month often evokes powerful images of celebrations with rainbow flags – but ‘pride’ means many things to different people. Westbury Arts’ celebration of Pride through Word and Song will feature an evening filled with powerful imagery brought to you by local LGBTQ+ Poets and Music Artists.
We’re calling all LGBTQ+ Poets and Musicians from Long Island along with the greater New York area to be a part of this celebration! Westbury Arts and Pride for Youth is seeking original poems to be read aloud and musical artists to perform via a Zoom event on:
Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Tuesday June 1, 2021
POETRY CRITERIA
All styles are welcome—haiku, sonnets, free verse, rhyme—and subject matter can range in tone and topic. However, this is an event that is intended for all audiences so poems that feature strong language, excessive violence, or explicit sexual content will not be selected.
Each poet can submit up to 5 poems for consideration. Please ensure that each poem you submit can be read aloud in under five minutes (or no more than 250 to 300 words).
MUSIC ARTIST CRITERIA
All music genres are welcome. You must submit a music video (mp4 preferred) of one, two or three songs that you wish to perform. Music lyrics that feature strong language, excessive violence, or explicit sexual content will not be selected. It is preferred that if you are a musical act, you will be asked to send in a digital performance piece for the event.
Each Music Artist can submit up to three (3) songs for consideration. Songs should be less than five (5) minutes each.
