Celebrating Hispanic Heritage: Diego Velázquez

posted in: News 0

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be showcasing prominent Hispanic artists in history.

Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) was a Spanish painter during the Spanish Golden Age. There is a self-portrait in the painting Las Meninas, which serves as an example of European baroque art. Manet considered him as a model; as did modern artists, including Picasso, Dali and Francis Bacon. It’s interesting to note that Manet, who is considered a bridge between realism and impressionism called Velázquez the “painter of painters.”

If you’re near Westbury, NY, check out our Hispanic Heritage event on September 24.
