2017 Black & White Ball

We are sad to share the news of the passing of a truly great woman, Joan Boes, Westbury Arts board member and founding member.

Joan was an original member of the Westbury Arts Council in the 1970s and was instrumental in bringing this organization to life again in 2013. She was a treasure to Westbury Arts and the entire community. Her wisdom and counsel will be sorely missed. The Westbury Arts board of directors and I send our sincerest condolences to Joan and her family. Rest in peace, Joan.

For those of you who may not have seen it, I am including here Mayor Peter Cavallaro’s email. The Mayor eloquently expresses what we all feel.

“[Joan] was a voice of reason on our [Village] board, as well as in the community at large. She served as a board member of Westbury Arts, and was instrumental in the re-establishment of an arts council in our community after many years without one. She was also a member of the original Westbury Arts Council. Joan was involved in many activities and organizations during her many years of service to the community. She was particularly interested in our children, and in our schools… Her unexpected loss will leave a mark on us all. But, her work on behalf of her neighbors and the community over many years will leave a greater mark and powerful legacy. Today, Westbury has lost a great lady.”
