Westbury Arts Sponsors Students to Visit National Museum of African American History and Culture

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Pi Pi Omega Chapter Celebrates 30th Anniversary in Washington, DC

On March 25, 2017 the members of Pi Pi Omega Chapter – Westbury, New York travelled with two coach buses to the newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. Along with family, friends and community supporters, the Chapter was lead on a guided tour ‘up from slavery to freedom’s light’ by museum docent, Ms. Janice Ferebee and her team of docents. Members of Pi Pi Omega and members from other chapters then, visited The Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel at Howard University where PPO Chapter President, Vashti N. Burke and Pearls and Ivy Foundation of Westbury, Inc. President, Dr. Irene Betty Hylton presented a $600+ donation to Chapel Sexton, Mr. Joseph Hargett, as well as, posed for Chapter photographs by the famed Alpha Kappa Alpha Stained Glass. Students from the Chapter’s ASCEND program at Westbury High School were sponsored to attend the trip by the generosity of the Mayor of Westbury, Peter I. Cavallaro and Westbury Arts.

Pi Pi Omega Chapter has been serving the Westbury/ New Cassel community since 1987. The 30th Anniversary celebration will culminate with a formal gala, ‘A Salute to Blacks in Action: Saluting Colors of Change, honoring members of the local National Pan Hellenic Organizations on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Leonard’s Pallazzo in Great Neck, New York.
