Farmers & Artists Market Vendor Spotlight: Maureen Baranov

This summer, Westbury Arts and Sunnyside Markets are teaming up to launch the Westbury Farmers & Artists Market. Each market will feature up to twenty-five booths selling local produce and original artwork. Throughout the season, we’ll be highlighting some of our fantastic vendors.

Meet Maureen Baranov.

How did you get started in your field?

It started as an innocent hobby. I decided to hand stamp Christmas cards one year, many years ago.
I have been making hand stamped greeting cards for over 20 years now and began selling them to colleagues at my school. I’ve been crafting wire work and re-purposed jewelry for about 10 years. I started selling at craft fairs and church fairs at the insistence of one of my colleagues. The money earned from sales gives me an opportunity to purchase more supplies! In other words it feeds my craft addiction, LOL.

What kind of products can be found at your booth at the Farmers and Artists Market?

By far and away, my most popular product is my greeting card selection. I have crafted cards for all occasions. Everything I have for sale has been handmade by me. For a while I was into making charms and have created quite a few charm bracelets and charms and pendants suspended on the necklaces that sell well also.

What makes your products unique?

I think what makes my product special is the combination of subject matter and color that I use in my cards. And as for my jewelry I am especially taken with the thimble tassels I created. These are vintage thimbles that I’ve collected from flea markets in France and I have used to create a tassel with strands made from old pearl necklaces and rosary beads. Here are some pics of my work:
